if you were to pick the next two tunes, what would they be?
one (1) from JGB/Grateful Dead and one (1) from The New Earth Mud

cool review out of brooklyn with some nice pictures
Chris Robinson and his Brotherhood decamped from a few of the finer enclaves of California to play a show for some very happy folks in Brooklyn last night. “Glad you all could make it,” said Robinson a couple of songs into the first set. “This is our party.” Then he joked:

Girl On The Mountain....where's this song been?
Live from El Rey 2003
Or how's about "Hi-Speed Transportation City Limit Blues", "Detour on the PCH Samba", "Never Empty Table", "Kids That Aint Got None", "Train Robbers, "Beginners and Sinners", "Mother of Stone"...
List goes on and on...hopefully Chris hasn't retired these tunes...

liked this quote from an LA reviewer:
....Chris’s ever-impressive vocals (dude could sing his ABCs and sound soulful). Chris also did a pretty good job of holding down guitar, including some lead work. But it was Neal Casal’s lead guitar that truly shone (I had to compliment him later on the tone he wrung from his SG. I also couldn’t resist reminding bassist/L.A. music vet Muddy Dutton of the time I’d partied with him at his ranch about 8 years ago — this was after a late night at the Baked Potato, where I’d just sung a couple of Stones covers with Gilby Clarke’s band. As expected, Muddy remembered none of this).
...all you little sleepyheads
So lately, I've been putting the iPod on random CRB shows when it's time for bed, and I really got to say that it's great slumber music. There's a real dreamlike melancholy in the music and in the jamming, and Chris' voice on these songs puts me into lala land fairly quickly.
and the band played on
Twenty shows in and the band seems to really be getting over any sort of jitters they may have had when these shows started. A handful of audience shows have surfaced on etree and a few shows on live downloads have appeared giving a sampling of what these shows sure sound like.
Personally, I think they've hit on some really great, new songs (Star or Stone, Star Crossed Lonely Sailor) and the jamming has been excellent (Hot Buttered Biscuit, Blue Suede Shoes)
Unfortunately, goofs on the intertubes are still complaining about the "meandering" of the music, "we never liked the mud, waaahhhh" and how George Sluppick's "look" doesn't fit in with the band's style. Whatever the fuck that means.
Just goes to show there will always be armchair quarterbacks who couldn't get their garage bands off the ground gracing us with their expertise in band management, song selection, and what to wear to a gig. Maybe there's a Sims game for that
Relax! Smoke whatever it is you need to smoke, put on a show, and as Chris likes to say, "chill the fuck out!"

if you see california, write about it...
This guy throws in some great nuggets about CRB's musicianship, the music, and the vibe of the show/crowd. As all music critics do, maybe he spends a little too much time on what the band's wearing (or not wearing. Forgot your shoes, chris!). But he seems to really get what the BrotherHood IS and what the Crowes WERE all about...
After the first song, Robinson chopped it up a bit with the crowd...."Just a reminder" he joked "The Brotherhood is not a cult, but it would be nice to get tax exempt status".Another snippet:
Possibly in honor of the song's originators, a joint was thrown on stage by an audience member during a Dead cover. It was put aside, whether to be smoked later or discarded later, well, your guess is as good as mine. I didn't see the band smoke it, but I didn't see the band not smoke it either.

funny but i bet you never left home...
Brotherhood member, Adam MacDougall, may have spilled the beans regarding CRB's future plans. Allegedly, he has told fan(s) that as of right now, CRB is a 2 year project. The band members (chris I'm guessing) are thinking of cutting a record and taking the tour national when this California thing is done. 2011-04-13
March 6, 2011 News
New Earth Mud, version 3, is back on the road! In California only. Boooo. This time with longtime guitarist of Ryan Adams and The Cardinals, Neal Casal. Neal fucking Casal! But don't take it from me. Straight from the Hippo's Mouth:
Glad tidings freakers!
Just wanted to give you the good word about who is in the brotherhood and what our trip is about. First off, the players. Joining myself will be Neal Casal on guitar, Adam MacDougall on keyboards, George Sluppick on drums and Mark "Muddy" Dutton on Bass.
We'll be playing a bunch of new songs I have been working and will be digging deep into what is happening at that musical moment. There will be old stuff that I've done and a handlful of covers that just feel right.
Please come with your good vibes, feel free to trip along with the bouncing ball or just float away. Remember we all want great gigs!
So if you see California, say Hello.
Keep it freaky,
CR
